Destinations

When reaching destinations
Long struggled to achieve
Accumulations and satisfaction
Are mingled with relief

To leave a former setting
Where subservience was the norm
With hugs that smelled like diesel
And hands callused and worn

Were seeds within a vision
For a future free of pain
To eat and dress like others
To feel and look the same

The reason for the difference
To a child that is aware
Of comforts and recognitions
Unequal and unfair

May mix with deep resentment to
Claim what is their due
While others meekly subordinate
To stand and wait in queue

To reach a destination
Where satisfaction reigns
Is a blessing only felt by those
Who struggled within constraints

To reach one’s destination
Are the personal achievements set
While plodding responsibilities
Now reached without regret

One’s private destination
Is the peace now free of strife
It is the bonding of deep values
Neglected in a hectic life
